2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League: League A3 – England vs Spain

England continue their 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign with a top of League A3 clash against Spain.

Victory will see England leapfrog Spain to top League A3, whilst the reigning world champions can stay top with a win and potentially move four points clear if Portugal draw their clash with Belgium elsewhere.

Team News

England have no fresh injury concerns following their 1-1 draw away to Portugal, with every player available for selection.

Spain too have no fresh injury concerns after they came from 2-0 down to beat Belgium in their opening game of 2025.

When is Kick-Off?

England host Spain at Estadio Municipal de Portimão on Wednesday 26 February at 8pm GMT, live ion ITV4 n the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is England’s first Women’s Nations League meeting against Spain.
  • Spain are winless in their last eight visits to England in all competitions (D3, L5).
  • Two of England’s three draws at home to Spain in all competitions ended in a 0-0 result, except for a 1-1 draw in September 1996 which Spain win 3-2 on aggregate to reach UEFA Women’s Euro 1997.
  • Sarina Wiegman’s England have scored first in 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions in which they netted at least one goal, except for a 4-3 friendly loss to Germany in October 2024.
  • Spain have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches in all competitions (W3, D3, L2).

Prediction

Following a frustrating 1-1 draw away to Portugal where they often lacked a clinical cutting edge despite their first-half dominance, England have to be much sharper because they can’t afford to be as sloppy as they were in the second half which saw little pressure or intensity gear change until Portugal had equalised.

Spain though have their own issues because they were pretty wasteful against Belgium until they found late wind to stage a strong comeback, which shows just how competitive women’s football is if the world champions can also lack some finishing quality and be defensively careless coming into this huge fixture.

Victory though already feels imperative for the Lionesses if they’re to hold realistic hopes of topping this group but with both teams needing a huge upgrade in attacking end product, I do feel that this will be pretty scrappy with a point apiece which could blow the group wide open if Belgium beat Portugal.

Prediction: England 1-1 Spain

Result: England 1-0 Spain
