Mexican driver, Rafael Villagomez is staying with Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) for a second season in F2.
Villagomez graduated to F2 from F3 last season and managed just 13 points across four top-ten finishes – which came in Saudi Arabian, Australian, Hungarian and Italian Feature Races, with a season-best finish of seventh in Melbourne, Australia.
VAR nevertheless has decided to retain the Mexican for a second season with Villagomez “extremely excited” to secure a second season with the Dutch team, but iterated that he needs to be more competitive this season.
“Important year for myself and the team. Towards the end of the year things started shape up better so I’m looking forward to carry on. A lot of work has been done over the winter so I’m looking forward to start testing and Barcelona.”
VAR Team Principal, Brad Joyce added: “We’re excited to have Rafa stay with our FIA Formula 2 team for the upcoming season.
“He made significant progress last year, and we’re excited to continue working together to further his development. We’re confident he’ll build on his performances and achieve better results.”
Villagomez will partner UK’s John Bennett as he graduates full-time into F2 following his guest stint at the end of last season.
