Brighton’s Head Coach, Fabian Hürzeler is proud of his team’s “real character” in comeback 2-1 FA Cup win over Chelsea.

Bart Verbruggen’s fifth-minute own-goal put Chelsea into an early lead but Georginio Rutter equalised seven minutes later, before Kaoru Mitoma lobbed a second-half winner in over ex Brighton goalkeeper – Robert Sanchez to book a fifth-round spot.

Hürzeler post-match was pleased at how his team responded to a humiliating 7-0 away loss at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend, in a performance which he believes underlines the “real character,” of the squad.

“It was a great reaction – we bounced back after a tough week. The guys showed real character, especially after the tough start.”

Hürzeler proceeded to joke that he had learned a new sentence which summed up the result, as he quipped: “I learned another sentence today: ‘Just what the doctor ordered.’

“It’s not easy to come back and to play with this intensity, and to play also in possession with that courage.

“And I think it was a great win well deserved. It was a great feeling to hear the [victory] song at the end again, to see the fans supporting and cheering the team and enjoying the win.”

“I think it’s important to stay calm and not overreact,” continued Hürzeler on the ideal approach to motivating the team after a heavy loss.

“On evenings like this you shouldn’t be too afraid. But when you have bad losses like last weekend, you shouldn’t fall into panic. I think it’s very important to not overreact, to stay grounded, find the right solutions and keep working.”
