Danish right-back, Mads Roerslev has joined Wolfsburg on loan from Brentford until end of 2024-25 season.

Roerslev’s move comes after he made 11 appearances this season for Brentford in all competitions, of which his last appearance came in a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace yesterday (26 January), with Wolfsburg having the option to buy him at the end of season.

Should Wolfsburg take up their option to buy the 25 year-old if his loan is successful, Roerslev’s five-and-a-half year spell at the Bees will have come to an end – in which he scored two goals in 146 appearances and helped Brentford to promotion from Championship to Premier League at end of 2020-21 season.

Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Gilles has paid tribute to Roerslev for his commitment and effort after he initially joined their B-Team in August 2019.

“Mads has done an absolutely fantastic job for us since he joined our B team. He is the perfect example of why we set up the B team in 2016 – we wanted to bring in talented young players who needed some development and a pathway to first-team football.

“When he’s had his chance, he has always made a positive impact on the team and contributed with some important goals and assists.”

Gilles added that this opportunity will allow the Dane to cement himself as a first-choice right-back and cement himself in the Denmark National Team, having only made his senior international debut in November 2024 – which was the third occasion that he had been called up.

“Mads now has the chance to become a first-choice right-back at a very good club and hopefully cement his position in the Denmark national team.

“Wolfsburg will have the option to buy Mads in the summer, so we aren’t sure at this stage whether he will be back with us again for next season.

“But if the match against Crystal Palace was his final Brentford appearance, then he couldn’t have wished for a better result and performance.”

Following his unveiling as a Wolfsburg loanee, Roerslev said that he is “very happy” to take the opportunity to chase first team football.

“I like the way the team plays football. I’m happy to be a part of it now and I can’t wait to play in this beautiful stadium,” commented the Dane.
