2024-25 Premier League: Week 21 – Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool

Nottingham Forest meet Liverpool at the City Ground in a top of Premier League clash.

Victory or a draw will lift Forest up to second for at least 24 hours, although victory would put the hosts within three points of Liverpool.

Liverpool will stay top regardless of the result but a win would move them nine points clear of third-placed Forest.

Team News

Forest have no fresh injury concerns to report following their FA Cup win over Luton as only Ibrahim Sangare (hamstring) remains sidelined.

Liverpool will be without Darwin Nunez as he serves an one-match ban following his fifth booking of the league campaign in their 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Joe Gomez remains ruled out as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

When is Kick-Off?

Forest host Liverpool at the City Ground on Tuesday 14 January at 8pm GMT, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Forest have won two of their last five Premier League meetings against Liverpool (W2, L3).
  • Liverpool have won one of their seven previous Premier League visits to Forest (W1, D3, L3).
  • Three of Forest’s last five Premier League meetings against Liverpool ended in 1-0 results, of which Forest won two of those three games by that result.
  • Anthony Elanga has scored in each of Forest’s last two league games at home (W2).
  • Mohamed Salah has scored eight goals in Liverpool’s last five away games in the top-flight (W3, D2).

Prediction

Currently just six points off Liverpool and in strong form, Forest can come into this massive home game full of belief as underdogs, but they need to be just as clinical on the counter as they were at Wolves in their last league game.

Liverpool though will be fully refreshed following massive squad rotation for their comfortable FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley, so I expect a strong attacking performance from the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Salah but this likely full-strength team can’t be as wasteful as they were in their Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg loss at Tottenham.

Throw in the fact that the City Ground isn’t a happy hunting ground in the Premier League for the visitors and Forest are the only team who beat them at home this season, then you have to wonder if this is a banana skin fixture for Liverpool so a draw might well be a decent outcome if can’t get the win.

Prediction: Forest 1-1 Liverpool

Result: Forest 1-1 Liverpool
