2024-25 FA Cup: Third Round – Bristol City vs Wolves

Bristol City face a tricky Third Round tie against Wolves in the 2024-25 FA Cup.

Victory will see the Robins progress to the fourth round for a fourth consecutive season, whilst Wolves seek a fourth appearance beyond this stage in five seasons.

Team News

Rob Dickie is a doubt for Bristol City after he missed training this week due to illness.

Kal Naismith (unspecified) and Mark Sykes (hamstring) could return but Sinclair Armstrong, Cam Pring (both hamstring) and Joe Williams (Achilles) remain absent.

Wolves could welcome Andre back after he missed their league defeat at home to Nottingham Forest for personal reasons.

Craig Dawson (calf) and Nelson Semedo (hamstring) aren’t expected to be available for selection.

Matheus Cunha (suspension), Toti Gomes (hamstring), Yerson Mosquera, Boubacar Traore (both knee), Sasa Kalajdzic and Enso Gonzalez (both ACL) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Bristol City host Wolves at Ashton Gate on Saturday 11 January at 12pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Bristol City lost both of their two previous FA Cup meetings against Wolves by 1-0 results (L2).
  • Wolves won their only previous FA Cup visit to Bristol City in February 2019, in which Ivan Cavaleiro netted a 28th minute winner.
  • Excluding penalty shootouts, Bristol City have lost one of their last five FA Cup clashes against Premier League opposition (W1, D3, L1).
  • Wolves have lost one of their last five FA Cup ties against lower league opposition (W4, L1).

Prediction

Now unbeaten in four matches following a positive festive period in which they conceded just two goals, Bristol City should feel confident that they can claim another top-flight scalp at this stage if they name a strong line-up and score first.

Wolves though were nullified by Forest’s resilient defensive stance and clinically punished on counter-attacks and stuck in a relegation fight, it wouldn’t be surprising if there is serious squad rotation but Vitor Pereira might view this as a chance for his team to atone for that loss.

Nevertheless, this game does feel like it will be closely fought but I do think that Wolves’ priority has to be Premier League survival, so I can see Liam Manning’s Robins just nicking this.

Prediction: Bristol City 1-0 Wolves

Result: Bristol City 1-2 Wolves
