The Belgian Grand Prix will stay on the F1 calendar until 2031 following a new multi-year contract extension.

There had been doubt about the iconic race’s future due to the evolving requests for slots on the race calendar across multiple countries, but the decision of Dutch GP organisers to end their race boosted the prospects of the Belgian GP staying on the calendar.

F1 have now agreed a new multi-year contract extension to stay at Spa Francorchamps for four of the next six seasons covering the 2026, 27, 29 and 31 campaigns, with the race not being held in 2028 nor 2030.

F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali explained that the timing of this contract extension is “fitting” given that the race was part of the very first F1 season in 1950, as the sport prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

“Spa-Francorchamps is rightly lauded by drivers and fans alike as one of the finest racetracks in the world and it has played host to some incredible moments over its many seasons in Formula 1.

“In recent years it has undergone significant work to improve the facility and overall fan experience, and I would like to pay tribute to the promoter and the Government of Wallonia for their dedication and passionate support for Formula 1 in Belgium.”

Vice-President of the Walloon Government and Minister of the Economy, Pierre-Yves Jeholet is “delighted” to extend the race’s contract, which he believes can “…allow the circuit teams to plan for the future, which is hugely positive.”

President of Spa Grand Prix, Melchior Wathelet and CEO – Vanessa Maes issued a joint statement welcoming the renewal of the Belgian GP’s contract, which they feel “reflects the mutual trust built as we have upgraded our infrastructure and delivered record attendance and fantastic fan experience over recent years.”
