Liverpool seek to continue their Premier League title push against a struggling Manchester United.
Victory will move Liverpool eight points clear at the summit, whilst Man Utd can go 12th with a win.
Team News
Joe Gomez is ruled out for Liverpool after he suffered a hamstring injury in their 5-0 win at West Ham last weekend.
Dominik Szoboszlai (suspension), Conor Bradley (hamstring) and Ibrahima Konate (knee) could return.
Man Utd will welcome Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte back from one-match bans, which saw the midfield pair miss a shambolic 2-0 home loss to Newcastle.
Marcus Rashford (illness) is a doubt but Victor Lindelöf (unspecified), Mason Mount (leg) and Luke Shaw (unspecified) are still sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Liverpool host Man Utd at Anfield on Sunday 5 January at 4:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have lost one of their last five league meetings against Man Ut (W2, D2, L1).
- Man Utd are winless in their last eight visits to Liverpool (D4, L4).
- Liverpool haven’t conceded in seven of their last eight home matches against Man Utd.
- Cody Gakpo has scored in four of Liverpool’s last five home games in the top-flight.
- Man Utd are looking to avoid suffering four consecutive league losses for the first time since December 1978 – February 1979.
Prediction
Coming into this fixture off the back of a confident but comfortable win at West Ham, Liverpool can’t underestimate Man Utd especially after last season’s clashes but this feels like theirs to lose.
Man Utd though have been simply awful in the past fortnight and with no goals unsurprisingly to show for their efforts, it wouldn’t be a shock if they roll up with a strong display in this match of all matches.
I however can’t see Liverpool losing this if they continue to play like they’re currently doing, as Utd’ best hope is to score first which probably looks like a miracle to even happen on current form.
Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Man Utd
