Newcastle United face a difficult Premier League test at home to Liverpool.
Victory will put Newcastle up to sixth if Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Manchester United all lose elsewhere.
Liverpool could extend their title lead to 12 points with a win if Arsenal and Chelsea both lose their games.
Team News
Alexander Isak is unlikely to feature for Newcastle after he suffered a hip injury in their 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
Emil Krafth (shoulder), Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles (both knee) remain absent.
Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report following their win over Manchester City.
Diogo Jota (rib), Federico Chiesa (knock), Konstantinos Tsimikas (ankle), Alisson, Conor Bradley (both hamstring) and Ibrahima Konate (knee) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Newcastle host Liverpool at St James’ Park on Wednesday 4 December at 7:30pm GMT, live on Amazon Prime in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Newcastle are winless in their last 15 league meetings against Liverpool (D4, L11).
- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last seven league trips to Newcastle (W5, D2).
- Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has scored three goals in their last two trips to Newcastle (W2).
- Newcastle have won just one of their last four league matches at home (W1, D1, L2).
- Liverpool have dropped just two points in six away games in the top-flight this season (W5, D1).
Prediction
Currently struggling for much momentum with two wins in their last six league games, Newcastle know that they’re up against it here especially after conceding a late equaliser at Palace in a scrappy lacklustre contest.
Liverpool’s title-chasing train just continues to roll on after a ruthlessly dominant but clinical win at home to Manchester City, and it is hard to see how that run will hit a bump barring injury issues piling up.
In fact, I am expecting this to be a routine away win unless Newcastle can dig in defensively and snatch a draw somehow.
Prediction: Newcastle 0-2 Liverpool
Result: Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool
