F1 and General Motors Reach Agreement on 2026 Entry

F1 and General Motors have reached an agreement in principle for an entry onto the 2026 grid.

General Motors and Andretti Global entered into a collaboration about a new F1 entry for the 2026 season in January 2023, only for their application to be rejected in January this year.

Conversations however continued between F1, General Motors and Andretti Global and an agreement has now been reached in principle for the team to join under GM/Cadillac brand name from the 2026 season onwards.

General Motors will also become a power unit supplier at a later date once the team is settled in F1.

General Motors President, Mark Reuss described the agreement as “an honor” to be part of a sport that “demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence.”

Reuss proceeded to vow that GM/Cadillac will make F1 a better spectacle, whilst demonstrating their potential.

It’s an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we’re committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world.

“This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level.”

F1 owner, Liberty Media has welcomed GM/Cadillac’s arrival as President and CEO, Greg Maffei believes that the team will add “additional value and interest to the sport.”

F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali added: “General Motors and Cadillac’s commitment to this project is an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport.

“We look forward to seeing the progress and growth of this application, certain of the full collaboration and support of all the parties involved.”

FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem iterated that “All parties, including the FIA, will continue to work together to ensure the process progresses smoothly.”

McLaren CEO, Zak Brown welcomed this move which he hopes will ‘add a new dimension to our incredible sport.’
