2024-25 UEFA Nations League: League B – Greece vs England

Greece face England in a top of 2024-25 UEFA Nations League B2 clash.

Victory or a draw would see Greece secure promotion to League A and put England into the promotion play-offs.

England meanwhile must claim victory to keep their promotion dreams alive going into their final group match, although a win by two goals or more would put them top.

Team News

Greece have a full squad available for selection as Fotis Ioannidis returns to the team, having missed October’s action due to injury.

England will be without Aaron Ramsdale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka due to injuries.

Jarrod Branthwaite, Jarrod Bowen along with the uncapped James Trafford,  Tino Livramento and debutant – Morgan Rogers have been called up as replacements, although Branthwaite has since withdrawn due to injury.

Jarrell Quansah has consequently been promoted from the Under-21s as Branthwaite’s replacement.

Lewis Hall and Taylor Harwood-Bellis like Rogers will also look to make their debuts following their first senior call-ups, whilst uncapped Curtis Jones looks to make his first senior appearance.

When is Kick-Off?

Greece host England at Olympic Stadium, Athens, on Thursday 14 November at 9:45pm EET (7:45pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Greece won their only previous Nations League meeting against England by a 2-1 result in October 2024, which marked their first win over the Three Lions.
  • England have won all four previous visits to Greece in all competitions (W4).
  • Greece have scored one goal and conceded nine goals in four home games against England across all competitions.
  • Greece’s six goals in their last three matches were all scored in the second half (W3).
  • Grealish and Rice scored in both of England’s away games in the group so far (W2), but the pair are sidelined through injury.

Prediction

Sat on the cusp of automatic promotion and with their hoodoo in this fixture now over following a clinical win last month, Greece just need to keep playing their organised yet ruthless game to get the job done.

England manager, Lee Carsley meanwhile will be rueing his silly experimentation at Wembley last month, as the Three Lions otherwise would of been in Greece’s position if had won that game given their current injury crisis.

Carsley though needs to just try and play the same style which proved enough to beat Finland, but the first goal will be key and I just don’t see this England team getting the win despite their perfect away record in Greece.

Prediction: Greece 1-1 England

Result: Greece 0-3 England
