2024-25 UEFA Nations League: League B – Iceland vs Wales

Iceland host Wales at Laugardalsvollur in 2024-25 UEFA Nations League B4.

Victory would see Iceland go above Wales into the top two but they will only go top if Turkey fail to beat Montenegro.

Wales will go top if Turkey fail to beat Montenegro in Samsun.

Team News

Iceland have no fresh injury concerns with a full squad set to be in contention.

Wales too have no fresh injury concerns to report, with midfielder – Joe Allen having come out of international retirement for this international window.

When is Kick-Off?

Iceland host Wales at Laugardalsvollur on Friday 11 October at 8:45pm CEST (7:45pm UK Time), live on S4C in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Iceland’s first Nations League meeting against Wales, but they have won one of their last five meetings against Wales in all competitions (W1, L4).
  • Wales have lost one of five previous trips to Iceland across all competitions (W2, D2, L1).
  • Iceland have scored one goal and conceded five goals in their last three home clashes against Wales (W1, L2).
  • Iceland have scored six goals in their last two home matches in all competitions without conceding (W2).
  • Wales have kept one clean sheet on their travels in 2024 in all competitions (W1, D1, L1)

Prediction

Although recent results haven’t been consistent, Iceland are not a team to underestimate because they’re a solid dangerous team, especially with clean sheets in their two home games in the last 11 months.

Wales meanwhile continue to be a team in transition but the signs are positive after they grinded out a draw against Turkey, followed by an early smash-and-grab win in Montenegro so I do expect more growth here with Allen back.

Injuries however have impacted on Wales’ availability with some quality players out injured, but this is a chance for youngsters like Owen Beck and Lewis Koumas to step up.

I however do feel that a draw is likely unless Wales can do another early goals raid but I don’t see that happening, owing to Iceland’s difficult defence.

Prediction: Iceland 1-1 Wales

Result: Iceland 2-2 Wales
