Liverpool host Premier League rivals, West Ham at Anfield in the third round of 2024-25 Carabao Cup.
Victory would see Liverpool reach the fourth round for a sixth consecutive season, whilst West Ham look to progress past this stage for the third time in four seasons.

Liverpool host West Ham at Anfield on Wednesday 25 September at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have won four of their six previous League Cup ties against West Ham (W4, L2),, although two games were drawn – in October 1973 and in March 1981 in that season’s Final which both went to replays respectively.
- West Ham have lost each of their three previous away ties against Liverpool at Anfield in this competition (L3).
- Both teams have scored in six of their eight previous League Cup meetings.
- Liverpool are unbeaten in each of their last six League cup ties at home to top-flight opposition – excluding penalties (W2, D4).
- West Ham have won just two of their last six away ties to top-flight opposition in the League Cup (W2, L4).
Prediction
Although they did face a tough test against Bournemouth on Saturday, Liverpool’s defensive quality coupled with clinical end product saw them through pretty comfortably and I expect a similar performance amidst squad rotation.
West Ham meanwhile were just defensively atrocious and I haven’t exactly seen West Ham show their usual flair since Julen Lopetegui came in this summer, which is a concern for a team who are capable of more and recruited well this summer.
A huge improvement is therefore needed from the Hammers here but if it’s anything like at the weekend, I can’t see Liverpool losing this irrespective of squad rotation or not.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 West Ham
Result: Liverpool 5-1 West Ham
