Brighton defender, Jan Paul Van Hecke believes that the Seagulls must continue their “good energy” this season.
Van Hecke and his teammates are still unbeaten in all competitions but have drawn each of their last three league matches, during which he provided an assist for Jack Hinshelwood’s header in a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
The 24 year-old consequently felt that the team had dropped two points against Forest yesterday, having rushed much of their end products.
“It’s two points dropped,” commented Van Hecke. “It’s a frustrating one. I’m really frustrated. “We were unlucky to go down but we fought back to 2-1. I felt in that moment we were strong.
“We had all the control, we get a few chances to score 3-1. The one time we are not alert enough, they score. We had enough time to score again, but we were way too rushed.”
Van Hecke added that there is a need to “improve” ahead of their trip to Chelsea to ensure that they’re not again “disappointed.”
He however credited Forest for their performance but personally felt that they let their 2-1 lead slip, having come from behind through Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck in-between goals for Forest’s Chris Wood and Ramon Sosa.
“Forest are a good team but with how it went, we should have three points,” added Van Hecke. “I’m disappointed we didn’t win. Especially when you go 2-1 up after being a goal down.”
Looking ahead to their visit to Chelsea, Van Hecke believed that there is momentum and praised manager, Fabian Hürzeler for his work so far.
“There’s a good energy in the club,” pressed Van Hecke. “We are really hard to beat, five games unbeaten. The manager is doing a great job. Today and last week, we should have more points and be higher up in the table.”
