Ipswich Town have signed midfielder, Jens Cajuste on an initial season-long loan from Napoli, with a buy option.
Cajuste’s arrival at Ipswich comes after just one season at Napoli in which he only contributed two assists in 35 appearances.
Napoli initially greenlit a £1.3m loan move to Thomas Frank’s Bees for this season, albeit with a £9.4m buy clause but the deal unexpectedly collapsed following completion of the midfielder’s medical.
Ipswich subsequently swooped in and signed Cajuste on a season-long loan, with a buy clause which will become mandatory if the Tractor Boys avoid relegation at end of season.
“This feels great and I’m happy to be here,” commented Cajuste to TownTV in his first interview following completion of his move.
“It took a little while with the negotiations but I’m finally here and I’m very excited.
“I’ve had great conversations with the Manager and this seems like a very interesting project. It’s an ambitious club and a team that is progressing.
“I’m a player that works hard and I want to contribute in attack and defence. I want to play as much as possible and I’ll be looking to get some good tackles in!”
Manager, Kieran McKenna added: “He gives us another different profile to our midfield and puts us in a strong position in that department.
“Jens has a lot of experience across top leagues in Europe and in international football. He brings good physical and technical qualities to the squad and he is a very dedicated and committed professional.”
The 24 year-old central midfielder began his career at Orgryte IS where he graduated through their academy, and went on to make 18 appearances before he joined Midtjylland in June 2018.
Across his time at Midtjylland, Cajuste only managed two goals and assists apiece but was part of their Danish Superliga title-winning squad in 2019-20 season.
January 2022 saw Cajuste move to France’s Reims, which proved a successful move with six goals plus one assist in 42 appearances across his 19-month stint.
