With the new League Two season within sight, there is plenty of hype with plenty of teams expected to fight for promotion this season.
Newcomers, Bromley will meanwhile look to continue the tradition of promoted teams never suffering instant relegation back to the National League, as Andy Woodman’s Ravens gear up for their first campaign at this level.
Now, here is a guide to everything that you need to know about 2024-25 League Two.
When will 2024-25 League Two Season Start and Finish?
The regular season will start on Friday 9 August 2024 and conclude on Saturday 3 May 2025.
Promotion Play-Offs will follow in May with exact scheduling details to be announced nearer the time.
How Many Teams will be Involved?
The following 24 teams will participate in League Two this season.

- Carlisle United, Cheltenham, Fleetwood Town and Port Vale were relegated from League One at end of last season.
- Chesterfield were promoted as National League champions after six seasons in the fifth tier.
- Bromley were promoted via National League Play-Offs and will be playing their first campaign in the fourth-tier and EFL.
How does League Two Work?
League Two contains 24 teams who will play each other home and away across 46 matches.
The team who collects the most points (win – three points, draw – one point, loss – zero points) will be crowned champion and promoted to League One at end of season, alongside the second and third-placed teams.
Those ranked 4-7 will contest the play-offs with 4th v 7th and 5th v 6th in two-legged semi-finals, with the semi-final winners meeting in the Play-Off Final to determine the final team to gain promotion to the third-tier.
Whoever finishes in the bottom two positions will be relegated to the National League for next season.
How to Watch League Two in 2024-25 Season
Selected League Two fixtures throughout will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, whilst one match in each weekend round will be streamed live on Sky Sports + from this season under the new broadcast deal.
Every match across opening weekend, midweek holiday and on the final day will be available on Sky Sports + for streaming.
Six Teams to Watch
- MK Dons – Reached Play-Offs last season under Mike Williamson following his appointment in October 2023, so will target automatic promotion this campaign.
- Crewe Alexandra – Lee Bell’s Railwaymen will target automatic promotion after losing in last season’s Play-Off Final.
- Barrow – Stephen Clemence’s Bluebirds have climbed steadily up the table in last two seasons so play-offs will now be their target.
- Notts County – Enjoyed a solid mid-table finish last season but now face a tough test of their quality following striker, Macaulay Langstaff’s exit.
- Bromley – Considered bit of an unknown given that this is their first season in League 2, yet has the potential to surprise if underestimated.
- Chesterfield – Promoted as National League champions and with an experienced EFL manager in Paul Cook, Chesterfield could be promotion contenders.
