Manchester City have signed Aoba Fujino from Tokyo Verdy Beleza.
Fujino’s move sees her move overseas for the first time in her career, having scored 33 goals in 66 appearances for Tokyo Verdy Beleza across the last three seasons.
Speaking about her decision to join City, Fujino commented: ” In the league, this is a top-level club both physically and technically.
“That is something that I find very appealing, the size of the team and the organisation. It’s very important to play in this kind of environment.”
“This is a very big club with a lot of history, so I’m really excited to come here.”
City Women’s Head Coach, Gareth Taylor added: “Aoba brings even more excitement and technical quality to the team. She is still young but has already established herself on the international stage and we are delighted to bring her to our club.”
Man City Women’s Managing Director, Charlotte O’Neill added that the 20 year-old “… is an impressive striker whose signing shows our ambition and intent to challenge for silverware if you play for City.”
Fujino represents Japan in international football and has netted seven goals in 24 senior caps, during which she became their youngest-ever goalscorer at a FIFA Women’s World Cup last summer.
