UEFA Euro 2024: Quarter-Finals – England vs Switzerland

England look to step up their performance in a huge Quarter-Final tie against Switzerland at UEFA Euro 2024.

Victory would see England reach a fourth semi-final in this competition, whilst Switzerland could reach their first semi-final at a major summer tournament with a win.

Defender, Marc Guehi is suspended for England after he was booked in their Round of 16 comeback win over Slovakia.

Midfielder, Jude Bellingham is available for selection after he picked up a fine and a suspended one-match ban, following an inappropriate celebration against Slovakia.

Switzerland have no fresh injury concerns to report with Granit Xhaka available, despite having suffered a minor adductor issue in their Round of 16 victory over defending champions, Italy.

When is Kick-Off?

England face Switzerland at Dusseldorf Arena, Dusseldorf, at 6pm CEST (5pm UK Time) on Saturday 6 July, live on BBC1 in the UK.

Prediction

Having clinically seen off Slovakia in extra-time despite an otherwise gutless performance absent of much quality, it is little surprise that Gareth Southgate is changing his England formation and tactics because they aren’t extracting maximum quality from their top attacking firepower.

Switzerland though were calmly composed and clinical in their demolition of Italy with excellent intensity and movement on the attack, yet they proved defensively resilient with a solid back line which kept the Italians frustrated.

The Swiss though are yet to beat England in this competition but on current form, this is their best chance of causing a surprise but I do expect England to somehow step up and finally show their hand.

Prediction: England 2-1 (AET) Switzerland

Result: England 1-1 Switzerland (England win 5-3 on penalties)
