UEFA Euro 2024: Group Stage – Belgium vs Romania

After a shock opening loss in Group E, Belgium look to kick-start their UEFA Euro 2024 campaign against Romania.

Victory would see Belgium join their three Group E rivals on three points apiece going into the final group matches, whilst Romania can qualify with a win.

Team News

Belgium have no fresh injury concerns to report following their loss to Slovakia.

Thomas Meunier (thigh) remains sidelined.

Romania have no fresh injury concerns to report following their win over Ukraine.

When is Kick-Off?

Belgium face Romania at RheinEngerieStadion, Cologne, on Saturday 22 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Belgium’s first-ever European Championship clash against Romania.
  • Romania have lost one of their last five meetings against Belgium in all competitions (W3, D1, L1).
  • Belgium have lost two of their last six Euro matches (W4, L2).
  • Romania have kept clean sheets in their last three matches in all competitions (W1, D2).

Prediction

After their toothless loss to Slovakia where they just lacked much clinical end product, Belgium need to just reset because this is now absolutely must-win if want to realistically finish in the top two – especially with Slovakia and Romania meeting in their final group match.

Romania meanwhile were utterly ruthless on the counter-attack against Ukraine with a strong pace to their breakaways complete with clinical composure, whilst their defence looked organised and resilient which could be an issue for Belgium if again sloppy.

I however do expect Belgium to be fired up for this game so if Romania can contain them across much of the game, you have to feel that there might be another shock brewing in this group but I do fancy the Belgian Red Devils to step up here.

Prediction: Belgium 2-1 Romania

Result: Belgium 2-0 Romania
