When is Kick-Off?

Spain face Italy at Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen, on Thursday 20 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Spain have lost one of their last five European Championship meetings against Italy (W1, D3, L1).
  • Italy are winless in two previous Euro meetings against Spain when playing as the ‘away’ team (D1, L1).
  • This is the fifth consecutive Euros tournament where Spain and Italy have met at least once at any stage.
  • Fabian Ruiz and Alvaro Morata have scored in each of Spain’s last two matches (W2).
  • Nicolo Barella has scored in each of his last two appearances for Italy (W2).

Prediction

Having comfortably dispatched Croatia in their opening game with a clinical display and fantastic second-half game management – even if got lucky with a saved penalty, Spain can come into this clash full of confidence but Italy won’t make it easy.

Italy though didn’t start too well against Albania but some excellent set-piece play turned the game around before resilient defending spared their blushes, which likely won’t happen if they start this game in the same manner against more aggressive opposition.

A strong start therefore is absolutely critical for Italy because if they can weather the opening minutes, they could get a draw otherwise Spain will have the winning edge.

Prediction: Spain 2-1 Italy

Result: Spain 1-0 Italy
