2023-24 Premier League: Week 37 – Everton vs Sheffield United

Everton meet Sheffield United at Goodison Park in a Premier League dead rubber.

Victory would see Everton stay 15th in the table, whilst already relegated Sheffield United will finish rock bottom.

Everton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-1 draw at Luton last weekend.

Nathan Patterson (hamstring), Vitaliy Mykolenko (ankle) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

Sheffield Utd will be without defender, Anel Ahmedhodzic after he was sent off in their defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Mason Holgate is ineligible due to only being on loan at Utd from the Toffees.

Chris Basham, Max Lowe (both ankle), Rhys Norrington-Davies (hamstring), George Baldock, Tom Davies (both calf), John Egan (foot), Oli McBurnie (groin) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Everton host Sheffield Utd at Goodison Park on Saturday 11 May at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have claimed seven points in their last five league meetings against Sheffield Utd (W2, D1, L2).
  • Sheffield Utd have won three of their five previous Premier League visits to Everton (W3, L2).
  • Everton have failed to score in any of their three Premier League losses at home to Sheffield Utd.
  • Sean Dyche’s Toffees have kept clean sheets in their last four home matches (W4), during which they managed to score six goals.
  • Sheffield Utd have scored first in each of their last two away matches (L2).

Prediction

With safety assured and their attack finally in form with one blank in eight matches, Everton can look to finish another tough season on a high in this home game ahead of that difficult final-day trip to Arsenal.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees though will be relieved to have snatched a point from the trip to Luton last weekend because although they were wasteful in open play, their physicality from a set-piece proved enough with a penalty followed by resolute defending despite conceding a sloppy equaliser.

Sheffield Utd meanwhile will surely want this season over ASAP after another defensive implosion from 1-0 up – albeit against Nottingham Forest last weekend, which shows where they have to improve going into next season if want to come back up.

Chris Wilder’s Blades though don’t have an easy final-day game themselves either with a home clash against Tottenham, so this does feel like a must-win for both teams for momentum sake going into the final day.

I however do fancy Everton to get the win because on their current form, they should routinely sweep Sheffield Utd aside.

Prediction: Everton 2-0 Sheffield United

Result: Everton 1-0 Sheffield United
