Italy midfielder, Jorginho has signed an one-year contract extension at Arsenal until June 2025.

Jorginho joined Mikel Arteta’s Gunners in January 2023 from London rivals, Chelsea and has scored one goal in 51 appearances for the club in all competitions – which came in a 6-0 home victory over Lens en-route to topping their Champions League group.

With his contract set to expire at the end of June, Jorginho has decided to extend his stay in North London for another season with his one-year contract extension.

Reflecting on his 18 months so far at Arsenal and his decision to sign an extension, Jorginho commented: “It’s been really positive, because I felt part of something big straight away. I felt involved and really in a good place. It’s not always like that, so when you feel something like this, it’s something important.

“I’m really happy to stay, because it’s a privilege to be a part of this family. My family is happy, we are really well settled and there’s more to come!”

Jorginho also spoke of his pride at how welcoming Arsenal fans have been, as he added: “That means a lot. And that’s one more reason for signing the contract because I feel I can – and I want to – give more to them, because they’ve been giving a lot of affection and support to me.

“All I want is to give it back.

“I try to give everything I can of myself to everyone around. Sometimes that can be a cuddle, sometimes it can be words, sometimes show them something. I just try to help as much as I can in any situation. I feel that everyone here can count on me. I will always be there for them.”

Jorginho though feels that the Premier League is still “missing” from his lengthy list of major honours and is eager to try and add the title to that compilation within the next year, with Arsenal currently sat top of this season’s table by one point from rivals, Manchester City who have a game in hand.

“It’s something that definitely I would like to add to that list and it would mean a lot to me.

“I want to win as much as I can, and enjoy the moment because that’s really important for me. If you are somewhere where you are not enjoying it, or you are not happy, then it’s difficult. So moving forward is trying to be happy and achieve as much as we can.”

Arteta is “delighted” to retain the 32 year-old midfielder as he explained: “Jorgi is such an important part of our team, a role model with great leadership skills and a unique playing style ability which makes everybody better around him on the pitch.

“We’re very pleased that Jorgi and his family have committed with us and we’re all excited to continue this journey together.”

Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu added that Jorginho “… represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success.

“I know everyone at the club will be very excited that Jorgi will continue to be with us, not only the players and coaches, but all the staff behind the scenes as well. It’s great that Jorginho remains with us, as we continue building to be better and stronger.”

Confirmation of Jorginho’s contract extension comes after his fellow midfielders, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice were nominated for Premier League Player of the Season, whilst Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are nominated for Young Player of the Season.
