2023-24 Premier League: Week 35 – West Ham vs Liverpool

West Ham meet Liverpool at London Stadium as both teams seek to revive their fading Premier League ambitions.

Victory would see West Ham climb to seventh until at least Saturday teatime, whilst Liverpool can go second with a win until Sunday afternoon.

Jarrod Bowen could return for West Ham after he missed the 5-2 loss at Crystal Palace with a back issue.

Konstantinos Mavropanos (knock) and Nayef Aguerd (shoulder) are doubtful but George Earthy (concussion) remains ruled out.

Liverpool could welcome Cody Gakpo back after he missed their Merseyside derby defeat at Everton for personal reasons.

Conor Bradley (ankle), Ben Doak (knee), Joel Matip (ACL), Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara (both muscle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

West Ham host Liverpool at London Stadium on Saturday 27 April at 12:30pm BST, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • West Ham have claimed just five points in their last 15 league meetings against Liverpool (W1, D2, L12).
  • Liverpool have lost one of their last seven league visits to West Ham (W5, D1, L1).
  • West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored in each of the two previous meetings between both clubs this season in all competitions, albeit won by Liverpool at home
  • West Ham have conceded first in three of their last four home games (D3, L1).
  • Virgil van Dijk has made more clearances than any other Liverpool player this season (126).

Prediction

Having seen sixth position slowly become adrift of their reach in recent games with one win in their last seven, West Ham must now step up and show more of their attacking prowess and cut out the atrocious defending which they served up in the brutal defeat at Palace.

Liverpool meanwhile were outclassed by Everton across the pitch with a lacklustre intensity and lack of composure in their end product, which means that they realistically need to be at their best in their remaining games from now and hope title luck swings their way.

I however do fancy West Ham to be right up for this given that they didn’t have a midweek game and this is Liverpool’s third game in six days – whilst having a lunchtime kick-off which could well mean fitness playing a part for the Reds.

A draw therefore seems like a fair guess because West Ham will have that freshness but Liverpool will want to bounce back from that midweek display.

Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Liverpool

Result: West Ham 2-2 Liverpool
