Scott Wharton is a doubt for Blackburn after he suffered back spasms in their last two matches, which both led to him being substituted at half-time.

Andrew Moran (thigh) and Yasin Ayari (hamstring) are set to be in contention but Arnor Sigurdsson (ankle), Harry Leonard (back), John Fleck (shin), Ryan Hedges (hamstring) and Sam Barnes (thigh) remain absent.

Sheffield Wednesday have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-1 draw at home to Stoke last weekend.

Di’Shon Bernard (knock), Ian Poveda (muscle) and Juan Delgado (hip) remain ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Blackburn host Sheffield Wednesday at Ewood Park at 12:30pm BST on Sunday 21 April, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Blackburn have lost three of their last six meetings against Sheffield Wednesday (W2, D1, L3).
  • Sheffield Wednesday have claimed nine points in their last six league visits to Blackburn (W2. D3, L2).
  • Both teams have scored in five of their last six meetings at Ewood Park, except for a 1-0 win for Wednesday in September 2016.
  • Blackburn have collected 20 points in matches where their top goalscorer – Sammie Szmodics failed to find the net.
  • Sheffield Wednesday have kept one clean sheet in their last seven matches (W1, D3, L3).

Prediction

Sat five points above the drop, Blackburn realistically need to win this game to stay up if don’t want to have it all to do against Coventry then Leicester in their final two games, although they’ve been difficult to beat lately as evidenced by the clinical win at a dominant Leeds last weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday likewise can’t afford to lose here if want to keep pace with their immediate rivals but have found a way to grind out results lately, which stand them in good stead but they can’t afford to concede sloppy goals like they’ve done lately.

With survival at stake, this game could well be cagey but given the visitors’ upturn in form I can see them nicking this if they avoid any mistakes at the back.

Prediction: Blackburn 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Result: Blackburn 1-3 Sheffield Wednesday
