Brian Sorensen has signed a new two-year contract to stay as manager of Everton Women until July 2026.

Sorensen took charge of Everton in Summer 2022 and led the Toffees to sixth in the WSL last season, but an injury crisis has left the club sat 10th in this season’s table with four matches left.

Everton bosses however were impressed with how Sorensen has navigated this season’s troubles as he took the club to the Quarter-Finals of this season’s Women’s FA Cup – which ended with a narrow home loss to Chelsea.

Speaking to evertontv about his new contract, Sorensen commented: “I’m very happy – I really like it here. I like the Club, I like the people in the Club and I like the fans.

“There’s a plan in place, we have a good future and a good squad going forward. I think it’s important to show in the background there’s a plan.”

Sorensen proceeded to address this season’s difficulties as he continued: “Results this season haven’t been the best at times – injuries to key players have been a big part of that – but we are performing extremely well and we have a good group.

“We want to continue working on that. The building blocks are there.

“This is one of the best groups I have worked with, for sure. They stick together and believe. In tough times, they’ve found the wins – games like West Ham away, Villa away – that really shows the character of the group.

“We’re all determined to keep moving forward with Everton.”

Sorensen’s assistant, Stephen Neligan has also signed a new contract which he was “delighted” to seal ahead of the run-in.

Neligan also spoke of his belief that the groundworks are strong enough to build upon as he commented: “I feel there is a solid foundation that we’re working from and we’re looking forward to continue doing the best for this club.

“It’s been a challenging but interesting first couple of years in English football. I think we’ve got a great group of players here and we’re excited for the future.

“I think we’re in a good place with the long-term plans we have for the squad and for this club.

“The best is still to come. I’m really excited to be here and I really believe in this project. That’s why we’re happy to extend our stay and continue to move Everton forward.”
