2023-24 Premier League: Week 33 – Chelsea vs Everton

Chelsea seek to continue their push for European football against relegation-battling Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will stay ninth regardless of the result unless lose by a two-goal margin or worse, whilst Everton will stay 16th but a win can move Sean Dyche’s Toffees five points clear of the drop.

Cole Palmer is available for Chelsea after he was substituted in their 2-2 draw at Sheffield United due to fatigue.

Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Enzo Fernandez (knock), Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto and Raheem Sterling (all illness) face late fitness checks.

Levi Colwill (toe), Reece James, Lesley Ugochukwu, Christopher Nkunku (all hamstring), Wesley Fofana (ACL), and Romeo Lavia (thigh) remain ruled out.

Everton could welcome Idrissa Gueye back into contention after he missed their home win over Burnley for personal reasons.

Arnaut Danjuma (ankle), James Garner, Amadou Onana (both knock) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) could be available for selection.

Lewis Dobbin (ankle) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Chelsea host Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday 15 April at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won one of their last five meetings against Everton (W1, D2, L2).
  • Everton are winless in their last 28 league visits to Chelsea (D13, L15).
  • Everton’s Abdoulaye Docoure is the only one of four goalscorers from the Toffees’ last visit to Chelsea to still play for his club, with Joao Felix, Kai Havertz and Ellis Simms having left since a 2-2 draw in March 2023.
  • Cole Palmer has contributed to 25 of Chelsea’s 55 league goals this season, in which he scored 16 goals and created nine assists.
  • No Everton player has made more headed clearances in the league this season than James Tarkowski (75).

Prediction

Currently six points off sixth-placed Newcastle, Chelsea can’t afford to continue their inconsistency if want a late charge towards European qualification because their defence was just sloppy at Sheffield Utd – despite their attacking endeavours which twice put them ahead only to draw.

Everton meanwhile were absolutely clinical if lucky to beat Burnley with a well-executed attacking press which forced a costly error from Burnley’s Arijanet Muric, but their attack will have to be better to at least match Chelsea’s attacking quality.

I however don’t see Everton getting a result but their defence certainly won’t make it easy for Chelsea, who should really win this if they can cut out their defensive mistakes.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Everton

Result: Chelsea 6-0 Everton
