2023-24 Premier League: Week 33 – Bournemouth vs Manchester United

Bournemouth host Manchester United at Vitality Stadium in a huge clash in the race for European qualification.

If Brighton and Wolves both fail to win in the mid-afternoon kick-offs, victory could lift Bournemouth up to 10th in the table.

Man Utd meanwhile could start this game sat seventh if Newcastle beat Tottenham at lunchtime, in which case a win would return Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils to sixth position.

Marcus Tavernier is ruled out for Bournemouth after he suffered a hamstring injury during their defeat at Luton.

Chris Mepham (illness), Ryan Fredericks, Antoine Semenyo (both calf), Tyler Adams (back) and Luis Sinisterra (hamstring) remain absent.

Man Utd could have Marcus Rashford in contention after he was substituted in their 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool with a knock.

Scott McTominay (knee) is unlikely to be available but Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw (all muscle), Lisandro Martinez (calf), Victor Lindelöf (hamstring), Tyrell Malacia (knee) and Anthony Martial (groin) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Bournemouth host Man Utd at Vitality Stadium on Saturday 13 April at 5:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Bournemouth have won two of their last five meetings against Man Utd (W2, L3).
  • Man Utd have won four of their six Premier League visits to Bournemouth (W4, L2).
  • Both teams have won one of their last two clashes at the Vitality Stadium by a 1-0 result.
  • Bournemouth have kept one clean sheet in seven league matches at home in 2024 (W3, D2, L2).
  • Four of Utd’s seven headed league goals this season were scored by Scott McTominay.

Prediction

With European qualification almost certainly looking like a write-off after their late defensive collapse at Luton, having looked dominant until Luton equalised amidst some wasteful finishing, Bournemouth now have the pressure off them but they need to be more clinical yet defensively focused.

Man Utd meanwhile are slightly tricky to predict given their inconsistent results in the last two weeks but they did at least look energetic and confident on the attack against Liverpool, whilst the defence looked solid with discipline despite some silly fouling at times.

Utd though should fancy their chances here given that Bournemouth will miss Tavernier’s presence but I can see the Cherries trying to make life difficult for the visitors’ leaky defence, so this could well be edgy yet United should scrape a win if want any European football next season.

Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United

Result: Bournemouth 2-2 Manchester United
