Sheffield Wednesday entertain Leeds United at Hillsborough in a huge Sky Bet Championship clash.
Victory would see Sheffield Wednesday climb out of the relegation zone and up to 16th before their rivals play this weekend, whilst Leeds can go second with a win.
Team News
Barry Bannan is available for Sheffield Wednesday despite having suffered a head injury during their midweek win over Plymouth.
Ian Poveda (ineligible), Juan Delgado (hip), Callum Paterson (knee), Kristian Pedersen (leg) and Josh Windass (muscle) remain absent.
Leeds will have Crysencio Summerville available despite the winger having suffered a minor ankle injury during their win over Stoke on Tuesday evening.
Jaidon Anthony (personal), Pascal Struijk (groin), Jamie Shackleton (concussion) and Stuart Dallas (hip) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds at Hillsborough on Friday 8 March at 8pm, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in six of their last seven meetings against Leeds (W3, D3, L1).
- Leeds have won one of their last five league visits to Sheffield Wednesday (W1, D2, L2).
- Sheffield Wednesday have kept three clean sheets in their last five home matches against Leeds.
- Ike Ugbo has produced four goals and one assist in Sheffield Wednesday’s last four matches.
- Leeds have kept four clean sheets in five second-tier away matches in 2024 (W4, D1), during which they scored 11 goals and conceded one goal.
Prediction
Currently unbeaten in four games and only stuck in the relegation zone due to their goal difference, Sheffield Wednesday just need to keep playing like they’ve done lately but they must be extra resilient defensively to keep Leeds quiet whilst ensuring that they’re clinical themselves.
Leeds meanwhile can’t afford to slip up here if don’t want to gift any advantage to Ipswich but they were lucky to edge past Stoke in midweek with a clinical performance, of which they will need a similar display given their recent poor form at Hillsborough.
That draw at fellow Yorkshire rivals, Huddersfield just last weekend will also stick in the mind for Leeds but with Sheffield Wednesday in form, I do expect this to be another closely-fought Yorkshire derby and a draw might well be a decent result that goes a long way for both teams come the final day.
Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds United
Result: Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Leeds United
