2023-24 Premier League: Week 27 – Manchester City vs Manchester United

Title-chasing Manchester City meet local rivals, Manchester United in a blockbuster Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

Victory would move Man City back to within one point of Liverpool at the summit, whilst Man Utd will stay sixth regardless of their result.

Jack Grealish is ruled out for Man City after he suffered a groin injury in their FA Cup victory at Luton.

Josko Gvardiol could return from an ankle injury which has sidelined him in recent weeks.

Man Utd have no fresh injury concerns to report after their narrow FA Cup win at Nottingham Forest.

Aaron Wan Bissaka (knock), Harry Maguire (unspecified), Luke Shaw, Rasmus Højlund (both muscle), Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia (both knee), Mason Mount (calf) and Anthony Martial (groin) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Man City host Man Utd at the Etihad Stadium in a 3:30pm GMT kick-off on Sunday 3 March, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Man City have won four of their last five league meetings against Utd (W4, L1).
  • Man Utd have won two of their last five league visits to Man City (W2, L3).
  • City’s Erling Haaland has scored five goals in three league appearances against Utd.
  • No striker has produced more shots in the Premier League this season than Man City’s Haaland, with the Norwegian having attempted 86 shots in 21 league appearances.
  • Harry Maguire has won more aerial battles in the top-flight this season than any other Utd player, having won 48 aerial battles in 16 appearances.

Prediction

City have certainly hit their run-in stride early with a ruthless display at Luton where they looked incredibly comfortable when on the attack, yet their defence does continue to concede silly goals which is something that Utd could capitalise upon.

Utd though were lucky to not be taken to extra time by Forest because they were fairly lacklustre and continue to lack that end product consisteency needed for a top team, which is a worry because they will need to absolutely be at their best here.

In fact I do feel like this will be fairly one-sided if City play like they did at Luton and United will be lucky to nick a goal.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United

Result: Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United
