2023-24 Premier League: Week 26 – Wolves vs Sheffield United

Wolves continue their push for European qualification against relegation battling Sheffield United at Molineux.

Victory could see Wolves climb to eighth in the table, whilst Chris Wilder’s Blades can move off the foot of the table with at least a draw.

Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to report after their win at Tottenham last weekend.

Matheus Cunha remains absent with a hamstring injury.

Sheffield Utd will be without Mason Holgate for their next three matches after he was red carded in their loss to Brighton.

Ben Brereton Diaz (hamstring), George Baldock (knock) and Cameron Archer (calf) are doubts for selection.

Rhys Norrington-Davies (hamstring), John Egan (foot), Chris Basham, Max Lowe (both ankle) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Wolves host Sheffield Utd at 1:30pm GMT on Sunday 25 February at Molineux, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Wolves are unbeaten in three of five previous Premier League meetings against Sheffield Utd (W2, D1, L2).
  • Sheffield Utd are winless in two previous Premier League visits to Wolves (D1, L1).
  • Wolves have scored in each of their last five home games against Sheffield Utd, during which they netted eight goals.
  • Six of Hwang Hee-chan’s 10 league goals for Wolves this season were scored on his right foot.
  • Sheffield Utd have claimd four points in their last five away games in the top-flight (W1, D1, L3).

Prediction

Having clinically punished Tottenham with an energetic counter-attacking performance with clinical end product, Wolves now need keep that fresh momentum going because this is a huge chance for them to stake their claim in the race for an European qualification spot.

Sheffield Utd meanwhile were totally outclassed by Brighton aside from a brief spell of solid play minus end product, whilst their vulnerable defence continues to be a big problem but this is a chance to reset and start quickly finding goals again.

I however can’t see Wolves rolling over given their superior attacking quality and more stable defence, no matter what the Blades have for them – especially after an unexpectedly ruthless win in Utd’s last away outing at Luton a fortnight ago.

Prediction: Wolves 2-0 Sheffield United

Result: Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United
