2023-24 Premier League: Week 25 – Luton vs Manchester United

Luton Town look to move closer towards safety in a tough Premier League encounter against Manchester United at Kenilworth Road.

Victory would move Luton four points clear of the relegation zone, whilst Man Utd will stay sixth regardless of the result.

Teden Mengi could return for Luton after he was named on the bench for their defeat to Sheffield United, due to a minor ankle injury which meant that he wasn’t fit enough for the starting line-up.

January signing, Daiki Hashioka could make his debut after having spent recent weeks focused on building up his match fitness.

Mads Andersen (calf), Marvelous Nakamba (knee) and Tom Lockyer (illness) remain absent.

Man Utd could be without Luke Shaw after he was substituted at half-time in their win at Aston Villa with a knock.

Aaron Wan Bissaka (knock), Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia (both knee), Mason Mount (calf) and Anthony Martial (groin) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Luton face Man Utd at Kenilworth Road at 4:30pm GMT on Sunday 18 February, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Luton lost their only previous Premier League meeting against Man Utd by a 1-0 result in November 2023.
  • Man Utd are unbeaten in their last five league trips to Luton, albeit in the Old First Division (W3, D2).
  • Both teams have scored in three of their last five league meetings at Kenilworth Road.
  • Carlton Morris has converted more shots onto target this season than any other Luton player, with 17 shots converted onto goal in 23 appearances.
  • Rasmus Højlund has scored in each of Man Utd’s last four league matches (W3, D1), with all four of his goals in this period scored during the first half.

Prediction

After a lacklustre performance against Sheffield Utd where they simply looked second-best throughout despite a second-half improvement, Luton certainly must show the fight that they had against Brighton and Newcastle if want to get any result here.

Man Utd meanwhile seem to have found their groove but after Tottenham slipped up and Villa won earlier in the weekend, it is imperative that they win just to keep pace in the top-four race especially after they clinically won at Villa last weekend despite sloppy open play finishing.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils though must be wary of Luton’s strong togetherness and fighting spirit so I do expect this to be another tough fight, but Man Utd really shouldn’t lose this sort of game otherwise they would need some luck to get a top-four spot come May/

Prediction: Luton 1-2 Manchester United

Result: Luton 1-2 Manchester United
