2023-24 Premier League: Week 25 – Burnley vs Arsenal

Burnley host Arsenal at Turf Moor in a huge clash at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Vincent Kompany’s Clarets will stay second bottom regardless of their result with Sheffield United not playing until Sunday, whilst Arsenal can go top with a win if Liverpool lose in the lunchtime kick-off.

Lyle Foster is ruled out for Burnley after he needed surgery on an unspecified injury.

Charlie Taylor (shoulder) could return but Jordan Beyer (thigh), Nathan Redmond (hamstring) and Luca Koleosho (knee) remain absent.

Arsenal could welcome Emile Smith Rowe back into contention after he missed their win at West Ham with an ankle injury.

Jorginho (foot) and Takehiro Tomisyasu (calf) are doubts, but Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf) and Gabriel Jesus (knee) are unlikely to be fit for selection if Mikel Arteta has one eye on their Champions League trip to Porto in midweek.

Fabio Vieira (groin), Thomas Partey (muscle) and Jurrien Timbers (knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Burnley host Arsenal at Turf Moor in a 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 17 February, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Burnley have won one of their last six meetings against Arsenal (W1, D3, L2).
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 10 top-flight visits to Burnley (W5, D5).
  • Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have kept two clean sheets in their last four meetings against Burnley.
  • Burnley have claimed just one point at home to London-based opposition this season (D1, L4).
  • Bukayo Saka has scored four goals in Arsenal’s last three away matches (W2, L1).

Prediction

Given how difficult it was to get anything at Liverpool, Burnley should be pleased to have at least scored a morale-boosting goal especially because they will again need to be at their defensive best against an even more fearsome team here where home support is imperative.

Arsenal meanwhile absolutely demolished a lacklustre West Ham but they can’t afford to let that result complace their mentality coming into this game, because they will certainly face a more gusty team full of fight given that Burnley are in a relegation fight here.

I however just can’t see Burnley getting anything here but they might nick a lucky goal if Arsenal have one eye on their trip to Porto in midweek, which could well see half-time changes if Arteta’s Gunners get the job done in the first half.

Prediction: Burnley 0-3 Arsenal

Result: Burnley 0-5 Arsenal
