Defender, Emil Krafth has signed a new one-year contract extension to stay at Newcastle United until June 2025.

Krafth missed the Magpies’ opening 14 matches of this season as he recovered from a lengthy knee injury, and has since gone on to make nine appearances, of which he started just twice albeit away to Manchester United and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The 29 year-old Swedish international has scored one goal in 73 appearances for Newcastle since he moved to the club in August 2019, and his contract was set to expire this summer after he initially signed an one-year contract extension in July 2022.

Speaking about his decision to further extend his stay on Tyneside, Krafth commented: “I am delighted to extend my time here and commit to Newcastle United for another year.

“Personally, it’s been a journey of ups and downs since I joined the club, but I feel at home here and I want to repay the faith and support shown in me, especially during my recovery from injury.”

Krafth also spoke of his optimism that Newcastle can push for European qualification again this season, albeit with Europa League or Europa Conference League qualification this time looking more likely than Champions League.

“It’s a really exciting time for the club on and off the pitch and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to continue being a part of that and hopefully help the team finish the season strongly.”

Mark Gillespie, Loris Karius, Paul Dummett, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie now are the only Newcastle players, whose contracts are set to expire this summer unless any of the quintet sign a new contract in the coming months.
