Arsenal have signed Sarah Bouhaddi on a short-term contract as a free agent.
Bouhaddi had been a free agent since she left PSG at the end of last season, having kept 12 clean sheets in 24 appearances for the club as PSG finished second to her former team – Lyon in Division 1 Feminine.
The 37 year-old had previously enjoyed a 13-year spell with Lyon until summer 2022 where she helped the club to 11 league titles, plus eight French Cups and UEFA Women’s Champions League titles apiece.
“I’m delighted to be joining Arsenal and to become part of this great club,” commented Bouhddi on her move to North London. “Arsenal has so much history across both the men’s and women’s teams and I’ve always admired the club.
On completing in the Women’s Super League, Bouhaddi added: “I’m excited to get the opportunity to play in a league that is going from strength to strength and I want to bring my experience to help the rest of the squad. I can’t wait to get started.”
Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevll is “really pleased” to sign Bouhaddi on a short-term contract to add extra competition for Manuela Zinsberger and Sabrina D’Angelo.
The Sweedish manager went on to praise Bouhaddi for her experience which includes 149 international caps for France plus two Cyprus Cup titles and 2017 SheBelieves Cup title, with her knowledge expected to add quality in his goalkeeping department.
“There aren’t many goalkeepers in world football with the breadth of experience and knowledge that Sarah has, so we’re delighted to bring her in to supplement our goalkeeping options.”
Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley added: “Sarah is a vastly experienced international goalkeeper and we are very pleased that she was available to join us on this short-term deal.
“She has a proven track record at the highest level of the game and we believe she is the perfect player to come in for this period.”
