Roundup of the latest Sky Bet Championship action as the race for automatic promotion got tighter.

League leaders, Leicester were held to a 1-1 draw at home by second-placed Ipswich after the Foxes initially led through Leif Davis’ own-goal from Stephy Mavididi’s low cross, only for Jeremy Sarmiento to net a late equaliser for the Tractor Boys on the rebound.

Third-placed Southampton moved to within one point of Ipswich and set a new club record of 21 matches unbeaten in all competitions with a 3-1 win at Swansea, as Che Adams put the Saints ahead before Will Smallbone and Flynn Downes scored either side of Jamie Paterson’s header.

Joel Piroe netted a 94th minute winner from the penalty spot as fourth-placed Leeds came from behind to beat Preston 2-1 at Elland Road, as Daniel James cancelled out Will Keane’s strike in a frantic opening six minutes.

Fifth-placed West Brom suffered a 2-0 defeat at Norwich in which Josh Sargent and Jonathan Rowe netted for the Canaries.

Ben Sheaf’s brace saw Coventry again round out the top six with a 2-1 win at second-bottom Sheffield Wednesday, despite Josh Windass netting a 68th minute consolatory goal for the Owls.

Down in the relegation zone, Rotherham remain rock bottom after Cafu’s opening goal was cancelled out by Marcus Forss in an eventual 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Ilias Chair and Sinclair Armstrong found the net as third-bottom QPR boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win at home to London rivals, Millwall.

Huddersfield saw their gap towards the drop reduced to three points after Michal Helik’s header rescued them a 1-1 draw at Blackburn, having initially fallen behind to Adam Wharton’s seventh-minute opening goal.

Elsewhere, Jay Stansfield and Juninho Bacuna struck for Birmingham City in a 2-1 win at Stoke, despite Jordan Thompson’s close-range consolatory effort for the Potters.

Fabio Carvalho struck a 71st minute winner on the volley from Tyler Morton’s cross to gift Hull a narrow win at Sunderland.

Ryan Hardie’s brace and Morgan Whittaker’s close-range strike saw Plymouth come from behind to beat Cardiff, after Perry Ng had put the Bluebirds ahead.

Finally, Scott Twine’s debut header cancelled out Tom Dele-Bashiru’s seventh minute penalty as Bristol City fought back to draw 1-1 at home to Watford.
