Brentford have signed left-back, Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of 2023-24 season.

Reguilon spent the first half of the season on loan at Manchester United where he failed to score in 12 appearances, having only made the loan move to Old Trafford as cover whilst Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were both sidelined with injuries.

Since his return to Spurs, Reguilon failed to break through into Ange Postecoglou’s plans and has now joineed Brentford for the remainder of this season, as the Bees currently remain without their only left-back, Rico Henry for the remainder of the campaign due to a knee injury.

Speaking to www.brentfordfc.com about Reguilon’s arrival, Head Coach – Thomas Frank said: “This is a very good signing for us. We’ve been talking for a while about how we need a good left-back, and we managed to get a very good left-back.

“I’m very pleased with the job that Phil Giles and Lee Dykes have done.”

Frank proceeded to iterate that the Spanish fullback fits the club’s plans for the second half of the season, as he explained: “Sergio is a perfect fit for us: a proven Premier League player in every aspect. He fits what we want. He’s very offensive, has a very good cross and a very good left foot.

“He’s got the experience we need to complement the rest of the squad and he’s a good character.

“We need him, but I also think he needs us to show how good a footballer he is. I’m convinced that this will be a positive partnership.”

Reguilon meanwhile posted on X that he is ‘happy about this new chapter’ in English Football.

Brentford have no option to buy Reguilon this summer with the Spaniard set to return to Tottenham upon completion of his loan deal.

Reguilon could make his debut for Brentford at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 20 January at 5:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK as the game sees Ivan Toney return from his eight-month ban for breaching FA Betting rules.
