2023-24 Women’s FA Cup: Fourth Round – Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Manchester United look to avoid a shock cupset against Newcastle United at Leigh Sports Village in the Fourth Round of 2023-24 Women’s FA Cup.

Victory would see Man Utd reach the Fifth Round for a fourth consecutive season, whilst Newcastle look to claim a huge scalp and reach the Fifth Round for the first time since they turned professional last summer.

Irene Guerrero is set to feature for Man Utd after she returned from a knee injury during a mid-season friendly win over PSV Eindhoven in Malta.

Hinata Miyazawa (foot), Aoife Mannion (quad), Gabby George, Emma Watson and Jess Simpson (all knee) remain absent.

Newcastle are expected to be without Jodie Bartle, Keira Skelton and Becky Ferguson due to injury, which saw the trio miss the Magpies’ 7-0 home win over Halifax in the National League’s Northern Premieer Division.

When is Kick-Off?

Man Utd host Newcastle at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 14 January in a 12pm GMT kick-off, live on FA Player in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Man Utd’s first-ever Women’s FA Cup meeting against Newcastle Utd.
  • Newcastle are playing away to Man Utd for the first time in a competitive women’s fixture.
  • Man Utd have won their two previous Women’s FA Cup ties against Non League opposition without conceding (W2).
  • Katie Barker, Bridget Galloway, Jasmine McQuade and Anna Soulsby are Newcastle’s joint top-goalscorers in this season’s Women’s FA Cup with three goals apiece.

Prediction

Despite there being a two division gap between Man Utd and Newcastle, Marc Skinner’s Red Devils can’t afford to underestimate the Magpies given their inconsistent home form this season whilst they also will be eager to go one step better than the runner-up finish last season.

Newcastle however are unbeaten in all competitions at present and with plenty of goalscorers across the pitch, this will be a huge test of the club’s progress as a professional team so I can see them seriously up for a fight if can soak up Man Utd’s pressure and clinically take their chances.

Man Utd however have had a break so their fresh match fitness might just tip the tie in their favour.

Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Newcastle

Result: Manchester United 5-0 Newcastle
