PSG host Newcastle United at Parc des Princes in a must-win Group F showdown in 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
Victory would see PSG move top if Borussia Dortmund fail to beat AC Milan, whilst Newcastle can go second with a win if AC Milan don’t beat Dortmund.
Team News
Keylor Navas is ruld out for PSG with a back injury, meaning that Alexandre Letellier or Arnau Tenas will be second-choice goalkeeper behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Sergio Rico (head), Warren Zaire-Emery (ankle), Marquinhos and Nuno Mendes (both hamstring) are sidelined.
Newcastle will be without Joe Willock after he suffered an Achilles in training prior to their win over Chelsea last weekend.
Emil Krafth (illness), Sean Longstaff (knock) are set to return alongside Lewis Hall, who was ineligible to play against his parent club – Chelsea.
Dan Burn (back), Matt Targett, Callum Wilson (both hamstring), Sven Botman (knee), Elliott Anderson (back), Jacob Murphy (shoulder), Sandro Tonali (suspension), Harvey Barnes (foot) and Javier Manquillo (groin) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
PSG host Newcastle at Parc des Princes in a 9pm CET kick-off (8pm UK Time) on Tuesday 28 November, live on TNT Sports 2 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- PSG lost 5-1 in their only previous Champions League meeting against Newcastle in October 2023.
- Newcastle are playing away to PSG for the first time in the Champions League.
- PSG have scored five goals at home without conceding in this group.
- Newcastle have failed to score in their two away games in this group.
Prediction
Having scored in their last eight home games with clean sheets in four of their last five matches at homes in all competitions, PSG certainly will be confident coming into this match because a win will guarantee qualification if AC Milan lose elsewhere.
Luis Enrique’s men however will be wary coming into this match after their 4-1 mauling at St James’ Park in October, where they were outclassed for pace and quality throughout with awful defending so a huge improvement will be needed here.
Newcastle meanwhile have a major injury crisis yet somehow can still produce top quality as demonstrated in their slightly surprising win over Chelsea, in which they looked confident on the high press with energy and clinical finishing.
It however is a tough ask for Newcastle to come here and replicate that performance in the space of three days, especially given that they have not scored on the road in this group but these Magpies shouldn’t hold fear as all pressure will be on PSG to avoid a final group match dogfight.
That mentality might well suit Newcastle if can soak up PSG’s pressure and cut off Kylian Mbappe from the hosts’ attacks, but they will have to be clinical themselves but I do feel like PSG will find a way through and avoid another defeat against Eddie Howe’s Magpies.
Prediction: PSG 2-1 Newcastle
Result: PSG 1-1 Newcastle
