2023-24 UEFA Europa League: Group Stage – Liverpool v Toulouse

Liverpool welcome Toulouse to Anfield in Group E of 2023-24 UEFA Europa League.

Victory will see Liverpool stay top and move closer to the brink of qualification, whilst Toulouse can go top of Group E with a win.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report with Curtis Jones available for selection, because his suspension only applies to domestic matches.

Andrew Robertson (shoulder), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) and Thiago Alcantara (hip) remain absent.

Toulouse have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-1 draw against Reims in Ligue 1.

Zakaria Aboukhlal (knee), Oliver Zanden (hip) and Ibrahim Cissoko (foot) are ruled out.

• Toulouse lost their only previous visit to Anfield by 4-0 result in August 2007 (L1).
• Liverpool have scored five goals in two previous meetings against Toulouse without conceding.
• All five of Liverpool’s goals in this group have been scored by five different players (Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota).
• Toulouse have scored first in both of their group matches (W1, D1).

 

Prediction

Sat top of the group, Liverpool have little to fear especially after a dominant Merseyside derby where they were patient yet effectively clinical to beat Everton, even if they did often waste chances aside from Salah whose end product proved the difference.

Toulouse meanwhile are uunbeaten in their last four matches but seem to be draw specialists with six draws this season, which means that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds can’t underestime them because this Toulouse team will be difficult to break down.

Liverpool however are yet to concede against Toulouse and with their superior firepower, I can’t see them losing here no matter how hard they’re pushed in what could well be another game of patience and clinical finishing.
