2023-24 Premier League: Week Eight – Burnley vs Chelsea

Relegation battling Burnley face a difficult clash against Chelsea at Turf Moor.

Victory would see Burnley climb out of the relegation zone, whilst Chelsea can go ninth with a win if Manchester United fail to win elsewhere.

Aaron Ramsey is a doubt for Burnley after he suffered a knock during their midweek win at Luton.

Manuel Benson (ankle), Hjalmar Ekdal (knee), Michael Obafemi (hamstring), Johann Berg Gudmundsson (muscle) and Nathan Redmond (unspecified) remain absent.

Chelsea will have Armando Broja available after he was substituted with fatigue in their win at Fulham.

Nicolas Jackson (suspension) will return but Reece James (hamstring), Moises Caicedo (contusion), Mykhailo Mudryk (quad) and Carney Chukwuemeka (knee) face fitness tests.

Ben Chilwell (hamstring), Wesley Fofana (ACL), Benoit Badiashile (muscle), Malo Gusto (suspension), Romeo Lavia (ankle), Marcus Bettinelli and Christopher Nkunku (both knee) remain ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Burnley host Chelsea in a 3pm BST kick-off at Turf Moor on Saturday 7 October, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

Prediction

With their first Premier League win now under their belt, Burnley now have to take that momentum into this game and be clinical, because I can see them having to do a lot of defending but they must take their chances when they get on the attack.

Chelsea meanwhile might of finally turned a corner with two wins and clean sheets in all competitions but their injury list is still a concern, yet they were clinical to beat Fulham in an edgy contest where their end product was simply better.

Turf Moor also has been a comfortable away ground for Chelsea but with some questions over their form and Burnley coming into this game with their first league win of the season, I wouldn’t be surprised if this contest is slightly scrappy but the Blues’ quality might just be enough.

Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Chelsea

Result: Burnley 1-4 Chelsea
