2023-24 Premier League: Week Seven – Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United host Crystal Palace in a mid-table Premier League meeting at Old Trafford.

Victory would see Man Utd climb to seventh if West Ham and Newcastle both fail to win elsewhere, whilst Palace themselves can go seventh with a win.

Lisandro Martinez is a doubt for Man Utd after he missed their Carabao Cup win over Palace with a foot injury.

Sergio Reguilon, Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen (all illness) are set to return.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (hamstring), Luke Shaw (muscle), Kobble Mainoo (ankle), Antony, Jadon Sancho (both personal), Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo (both knee) remain sidelined.

Crystal Palace could be without midfielder, Naouirou Ahamada after he missed their Carabao Cup exit at Utd in midweek with an ankle injury.

Dean Henderson (muscle) is unlikely to feature but Jairo Riedewald (knock) and Nathan Ferguson (thigh) are ruled out.

James Tomkins (unspecified), Matheus Franca (back), Jefferson Lerma, Michael Olise, Odsonne Edouard (all hamstring) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Man Utd host Crystal Palace in a 3pm BST kick-off at Old Trafford on Saturday 30 September, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Man Utd have lost just one of their last five league meetings against Palace (W2, D2, L1).
  • Palace are unbeaten in three of their last five league visits to Man Utd (W2, D1, L2).
  • Bruno Fernandes scored for Utd in both league meetings against Palace last season (W1, D1).
  • Four of Man Utd’s five league goals at home this season were scored in the second half (W2, L1).
  • Two of Palace’s three away goals this season have been scored by Odsonne Edouard.

Prediction

Having comfortably defeated Palace in a clinical performance in midweek, it will be interesting to see how Man Utd approach this game with Reguilon, McTominay and Eriksen all expected to start, which should hopefully bring a fresh spark to keep the visitors on their toes.

Palace manager, Roy Hodgson meanwhile will expect a serious response from his Eagles who lacked much quality in the cup, because they just lacked much energy and desire to chase the win in a game where they were outplayed especially down their flanks.

With that in mind, I do feel like we will see plenty of tactical changes for Palace but with Edoard and Lerma out, it is hard to see them getting anything here.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Crystal Palace

Result: Manchester United 0-1 Crystal Palace
