2023-24 Premier League: Week Six – Luton vs Wolves

Luton continue their hunt for a first league win of the season in a home clash against Wolves at Kenilworth Road.

Victory could see Luton climb out of the relegation zone and leapfrog Wolves into 16th position in the table, whilst Wolves can go 13th with a win.

Ross Barkley is a doubt for Luton after he missed their defeat at Fulham with a hamstring injury.

Gabriel Osho (knee), Jordan Clark and Dan Potts (both knock) remain absent.

Wolves could have Rayan Ait Nouri available after he was substituted with muscle fatigue in last weekend’s defeat against Liverpool.

Joseph Hodge (thigh) is unlikely to be risked despite resuming training this past week.

When is Kick-Off?

Luton host Wolves in a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday 23 September at Kenilworth Road, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Luton’s first-ever Premier League meeting against Wolves.
  • Wolves are unbeaten in their last six league visits to Luton (W3, D3), but lost their most recent visit 1-0 in Third Round of 2012-13 FA Cup in January 2013.
  • Luton have failed to win any of their last seven league meetings against Wolves (D3, L4).
  • Both of Luton’s league goals this season have come after the 80th minute.
  • Two of Hwang Hee-Chan’s three league goals for Wolves this season came from headers.

Prediction

Having received a tough lesson on life in the Premier League in their opening four games, Luton seem to be finding their feet now with their solid defence which has proven tricky for West Ham and Fulham to break down, yet little mistakes and poor shot conversion are costing them still.

Wolves meanwhile absolutely dominated Liverpool in the opening half of their game last weekend with strong fluidity, movement and intensity, but lacked that end product to kill the game off which was duly punished in the second half with a lacklustre effort.

Now if Wolves can build upon the positives of that first half performance and apply it across 90 minutes here, I can’t see them not winning but Luton will certainly make life difficult from a defensive perspective given that both teams’ defences aren’t exactly goal proof at present.

Prediction: Luton 1-2 Wolves

Result: Luton 1-1 Wolves
