2023-24 Premier League: Week Five – Fulham vs Luton

Fulham host Rob Edwards’ Luton at Craven Cottage as the Hatters chase a first league win of the season.

Victory could take Fulham into the top ten depending upon results elsewhere, whilst a win will lift Luton out of the relegation zone.

Deadline Day signing, Alex Iwobi could make his debut for Fulham if he has recovered from a hamstring injury, which kept him out of Everton’s last two matches prior to his move.

Joao Palhinha (personal), Sasa Lukic and Tom Cairney (both knee) could also be available for selection.

Luton could be without Tom Lockyer (quad) and Alfie Doughty (Achilles) if they fail to pass late fitness tests.

Gabriel Osho (knee), Jordan Clark and Dan Potts (both knock) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Fulham host Luton at Craven Cottage in a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday 16 September, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Fulham’s first-ever Premier League meeting against Luton, although they are unbeaten in their last five league meetings (W3, D2).
  • Luton are unbeaten in three of their last five league visits to Fulham (W2, D1, L2).
  • Both teams have scored in four of their last five meetings in all competitions at Craven Cottage.
  • Fulham have kept just one clean sheet in four league matches this season (W1, D1, L2).
  • Luton are yet to score first in a Premier League match (L3).

Prediction

Getting any sort of result away to Manchester City was always an impossible task, but to push Man City throughout the first half is credit to Fulham’s quality despite eventually being outclassed in the second half which will be a valuable defensive lesson to take into this game.

Luton meanwhile are continuing to adapt to the Premier League but can’t be too disheartened by their loss against West Ham, because they were limited to the counter-attack although they need to be more clinical whilst defensively better to clear aerial crosses when defending.

A goalless draw though would be a surprise given the vulnerabilities which lie within the defences of both teams, but if Fulham can find their attacking groove then I fancy them to delay Luton’s hopes of a first top-flight win this century further.

Prediction: Fulham 2-1 Luton

Result: Fulham 1-0 Luton
