Manchester United have signed defender, Gabby George from Everton for an undisclosed fee.
George’s move brings her nine-and-a-half year spell at Everton to a close in which she scored four goals in over 100 appearances across all competitions.
In a statemnt to www.evertonfc.com, George issued a farewell message for club supporters: “I would like to thank everyone at Everton for my incredible and special time at the Club.
“I joined as a teenager. Since then, I have played alongside world-class players, made friends for life, and played in some truly special occasions for this football club.
“I wouldn’t be the player and person I am today if it wasn’t for Everton. I will always be incredibly grateful for that.
“From every manager I have worked with, the players I have played alongside, the brilliant staff who work relentlessly behind the scenes, thank you.
“Everton will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish the Club and the outstanding supporters the very best for this season and beyond.”
Everton Women’s Chif Executive Officer, Alan McTavish described George as “a constant professional” who will be “a role model for many aspiring footballers for years to come.”
George is returning to Utd where she began her career at their Centre of Excellence, and the 26 year-old is “buzzing” to finally play for her childhood club. “This club means a lot to me and my family, and it’s where we want to be.”
Utd Women’s manager, Marc Skinner is “delighted” to sign George who brings additional defensive quality, as he explained: “Gabby’s versatility across the defensive line will further increase the competitiveness of our team and she will no doubt play an important part throughout this busy season.”
Utd’s Head of Women’s Football, Polly Bancroft added that George has “established WSL pedigree,” which will benefit the team and is “delighted” to welcome the defender back after she had left the Red Devils in 2014 to join Everton.
George could make her debut for Man Utd away at Aston Villa on Sunday 1 October live on BBC Two in a 12:30pm BST kick-off.
