Sarina Wiegman has recalled three players to England’s 24-player squad for their UEFA Women’s Nations League matches against Scotland and Netherlands.

In midfield, Keira Walsh has been dropped due to a calf injury with Jess Park replacing the Barcelona midfielder, having previously been named as a reserve player for the Women’s World Cup but withdrew due to injury herself.

Lucy Staniforth meanwhile has been recalled to the midfield selection after failing to make the World Cup squad.

Maya Le Tissier returns to defence having been named as reserve player for the World Cup and will join an unchanged defensive selection, with Lucy Bronze and Niamh Charles amongst those to retain their spots.

Up front, Bethany England has dropped out due to a hip injury but Wiegman opted not to replace her, meaning that Rachel Daly, Lauren Hemp, Lauren James, Chloe Kelly, Katie Robinson and Alessia Russo have retained their places in the forward line-up.

Wiegman has named an unchanged goalkeeping selection with World Cup Golden Glove winner, Mary Earps leading the line between the posts, with Hannah Hampton and Ellie Roebuck also called up again.

Speaking about her selection, Wiegman explained that she needs to ensure that “the players are fresh enough and ready to perform straight away,” if want to challenge for the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League title after falling short at the World Cup.

Wiegman also spoke about the importance of this new competition, as she continued: “It is the first time we have had the Nations League in the women’s game, and it will mean even more competitive matches for us to test ourselves.”

England will host Scotland at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 22 September (7:45pm BST), before visiting Netherlands in Utrecht on Tuesday 26 September in a 8pm CET (7pm UK Time) kick-off.
