UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying: Group C – Ukraine vs England

Ukraine host England at Stadion Wroclaw, Wroclaw, Poland, in a huge Group C clash in UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying.

Victory would see Ukraine move to within three points of group leaders, England, whereas the Three Lions can extend their lead to nine points with a win.

Mykola Shaparenko is ruled out for Ukraine with a muscle injury.

England will b without Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish after the pair withdrew from the squad due to injury.

Eddie Nketiah is chasing a first senior international cap, having earned his first call-up to the squad after impressing for Arsenal in the opening weeks of the season.

When is Kick-Off?

Ukraine host England in a 6pm CET (5pm UK Time) kick-off at Stadion Wroclaw, Wroclaw, Poland on Saturday 9 September.

Stat Attack

  • Ukraine lost their only previous UEFA Euro qualifier against England (L1), having suffered a 2-0 defeat in March at Wembley, London.
  • England are winless in two previous away trips to Ukraine in all competitions (D1, L1), which came in FIFA World Cup Qualifying in October 2009 and September 2013 respectively.
  • England’s Harry Kane has scored three goals in his two previous appearances against Ukraine in all competitions (W2), with the Three Lions keeping clean sheets on both occasions.
  • Viktor Tsyhankov has scored four goals in Ukraine’s last three matches in all competitions (W2, D1).
  • Kane has scored five goals in four appearances for England during this Qualifying campaign (W4).

Prediction

Having claimed a pair of contrastable wins in June in which they edged out North Macedonia in a thriller before scraped past Malta, Ukraine certainly shouldn’t make this an easy game such is their attacking quality despite their defensive ability not being as consistent.

England meanwhile are in fierce form having steamrolled North Macedonia in their last outing with a comfortable performance, where they looked at ease once they hit their stride but I can’t see them having it all their way here.

In fact, I expect this game to be as scrappy as their clash at Wembley in March but if England play with the same attacking quality as seen in the last two international windows, they should pull through with another win to put qualification within sight.

Prediction: Ukraine 1-2 England
