Joe Worrall Commits Future to Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest captain, Joe Worrall has signed a new two-year contract extension at the club until June 2026.

Worrall first joined Forest in 2011 and graduated through their youth academy to make his senior debut in a 2-1 defeat away to Reading in April 2016.

The defender has since gone on to make 220 first-team appearances in total across all competitions for his hometown club, during which he made 46 appearances as Forest went from relegation fodder to promotion via Championship Play-Offs in 2021-22 season.

Worall also scored one goal in a 4-1 Fourth-Round home win over then reigning champions, Leicester City in that season’s FA Cup, as Forest went on to reach the Quarter-Finals where they narrowly lost to Liverpool at home.

The 26 year-old went on to help Forest reach the semi-finals of last season’s League Cup and stay in the Premier League, during which he scored his first top-flight goal for Forest in March during a 3-1 loss at Tottenham.

Manager, Steve Cooper subsequently handed Worrall the captain’s armband for this season with Forest now sat ninth in the table after four league games, with Worrall consequently handed a two-year contract extension to his current deal which was set to expire in June 2024.

Speaking about his decision to extend his stay at the City Ground, Worrall commented: “I’m over the moon and just so pleased to extend my time with the club.

“You only have to look to the future and it looks very bright. Everybody knows how much we care to try and improve as a team and try and push on as a club.

“The owner has proved time and time again that he’s creating the Forest family and building a real identity within the football club, not just in the club, but in the league and in world football. We want to become that force again.”

Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson added that the club “were pleased” to agree a new contract extension with Worrall, who he believes is “equally pleased” have signed just a month into the new season, to ward off any transfer rumours within the coming months.
