Nottingham Forest have signed defender, Gonzalo Montiel on loan from Sevilla.
Montiel is Forest’s fifth signing of this summer’s transfer window after Chris Wood, Ola Aina, Anthony Elanga and Matt Turner all completed moves in the past two months.
The 26 year-old right-back has joined on an initial season-long loan but Forest have an option to make the move permanent for £9.5m next summer.
Speaking about his decision to join Forest where he will wear the number 29 shirt, Montiel commented: “I’m really happy to have joined this club.
“I’m coming here full of expectations, of getting to play and showing what I can do. I’m also hungry to win things, to win trophies, now’s the time to show this.
“I’ve been watching the Premier League since I was child, I used to watch every game. As a player you want to play in the best league, and the Premier League is just that.”
Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson added that the club “are pleased” to reportedly beat Fulham to sign Montiel.
Montiel is a proven winner for club and country with 12 titles in total across his time at River Plate plus Sevilla and representing Argentina internationally.
Wilson therefore expects Montiel to bring experience to the team as he added: “He has already experienced some major achievements in his career and he is looking forward with anticipation to the next chapter with Nottingham Forest.”
Montiel began his career at River Plate where he won three Copa Argentina titles amongst eight honours across seven seasons at the club, before he moved onto Sevilla in 2021 where he was part of their Europa League title winning team last season – having scored the winning penalty.
The 26 year-old also has scored one goal in 23 senior appearances for Argentina during which he helped them to 2021 Copa America then 2022 Finalissima and FIFA World Cup titles, of which he scored the winning penalty in the latter to deny France a second consecutive title
Montiel could make his debut for Forest away at Manchester United in a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday 26 August.
