Bournemouth have signed midfielder, Tyler Adams in a £20m transfer from Leeds United.

Adams joined Leeds from RB Leipzig in July 2022 but failed to contribute any goals or assists as the Whites suffered relegation from the Premier League, in a campaign where they reached the Fifth Round of the FA Cup which ended in a 2-0 loss at Fulham.

The 24 year-old however attracted serious interest from Chelsea but the Blues abandoned their interest once they secured Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, having fought off competition from Liverpool for the duo.

Bournemouth subsequently activated Adams’ £20m release clause to end any prospects of the US international playing Championship football, having failed to make an appearance for Leeds in all competitions this season.

Adams has signed a five-year contract with the Cherries until June 2028 and will wear the number 18 shirt.

Bournemouth’s Chief Executive, Neill Blake was “thrilled” to finally sign Adams, having “admired” him for an extensive period of time.

Blake also acknowledged the competition that they faced to secure Adams as he added: “It’s been widely documented how much his talents have been recognised in this transfer window by other clubs, so to have him sign for AFC Bournemouth shows the ambition we have as a club.

“Tyler is an exciting player who possesses plenty of experience for someone that is just 24 years of age and we’re looking forward to working with him as he’s a player we know will be a great addition to our squad.”

Adams began his career with New York Red Bulls where he made 38 appearances for their reserve team across 2015 & 16 season, before he went on to score three goals in 81 senior appearances between 2016-18 prior to his move to RB Leipzig.

The 24 year-old went on to score twice in 103 appearances across a three-and-a-half year stint at the Bundesliga club.

Adams also represents USA in international football, having made his debut in 2017 and gone on to score one goal in 36 appearances, which came in a 1-0 friendly win over Mexico in September 2018.
