Nottingham Forest have signed goalkeeper, Matt Turner from Arsenal for £10m.
Turner joined Arsenal from Major Soccer League’s New England Revolution last summer after a transfer deal was struck in February 2022, with the US international having remained at Revolution until last June when his move to the Gunners was officially completed.
The 29 year-old however was unable to provide much competition for Aaron Ramsdale, having made just seven appearances across all competitions in total last season, during which he kept four clean sheets – of which three clean sheets came in Arsenal’s Europa League campaign.
Turner also was an unused substitute as Arsenal beat Manchester City on penalties to claim the 2023 FA Community Shield, in what was his final game as part of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arsenal however decided to move Turner on as part of their swoop for Brentford’s David Raya, with the Gunners having accepted a £10m transfer offer from Forest which consisted of a £7m fee plus £3m in add-ons.
Speaking after having signed a four-year contract at Forest, Turner commented: “It feels great to be here. It’s something I’m really looking forward to, it’s a great challenge and a great step in my career.
“When I heard that there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family, it felt right when my agent spoke to me about it and it feels like the right move for me right now.”
“The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it. It’s felt right from the start and I’m happy it’s got done.”
“I’m looking forward to making a connection with my teammates, the fans and the city. I’m grateful to be here and can’t wait to get things started.”
Turner could make his debut for Forest coincidentally against his former club, Arsenal as the East Midlands club head to Emirates Stadium on Saturday 12 August in a 12:30pm BST kick-off live on TNT Sports.
Turner represents USA internationally and has made 32 senior appearances in total, during which he was part of title winning squads at 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2023 CONCACAF Nations League.
